Carlow Chamber Annual Golf Classic 2011
May 12th @ Mount Wolseley Hotel, Golf and Spa.

  Event Sponsor

Carlow Chamber held our annual golf classic on May 12th in the stunning Mount Wolseley Golf Club. The weather was beautiful, a fantastic venue and terrific food and with plenty networking being done, the event was a huge success. It is important during these times that we do not lose touch with how much business can be done through networking and by meeting new business contacts. Local businesses must constantly strive to profile their business as much as possible in order to survive and diversify as much as possible.

The winning team on the day were Golf Nation, with a score of 87, so many congratulations to them.

The Chamber really appreciate the support of Netwatch as our overall sponsor for the day, our media partner The Nationalist, GolfNation our prize sponsor and our many tee sponsors, too many to mention, and of course the beautiful Mount Wolseley Hotel.

Carlow Chamber workshop

Carlow Chamber workshop explained to retailers how to maximise their business during Christmas

How to get the most out of your Christmas trade was the principal topic at a packed County Carlow Chamber workshop recently.  The speaker was Alistair Lorimer who is a retail advisor brought over from England to give his experienced views in order to help Carlow retailers in the current difficult trading times.

He boiled down the challenge facing retailers to just three essentials: (1) how to attract more customers, (2) how to get them to spend more and (3) how to get them to come back more often.

His incisive comments on advertising (to attract more customers) included ‘one second eye catchers’ and using magic words like ‘NEW.’  On the topic of getting people to spend more, he advised his listeners to think like a customer and then provide the service that will meet a customer’s needs.  He spoke of ‘purse openers,’ i.e. items of really good value strategically placed in the shop, which will get customers into the mood to spend.

Alistair Lorimer also had words on creating the right atmosphere in the shop by assaulting the senses – sight (colour and lights), smell (flowers, scented candles) and sound (seasonal music).  The title of his workshop was “Only 43 Profit Making Days to Christmas ….making it and holding on to it.
